Inspired heavily by Vivian Maier’s self-portraiture, this ongoing project explores my body and all of its imperfections. I have always been very insecure about my body and the way I look. This goes back to my childhood but became more apparent in my teens, when I was scared to make changes to my appearance because of what my dad and other people would think. I am not scared to admit that I have always somewhat craved his approval; even now at twenty-five, I just want to make him proud and for him to be on board with what I do.
Since moving away from home, I have felt a lot more freedom to become who I want to be, visually at least. This has led me down the rabbit hole of taking more and more self-portraits, which often serve as a bridging point for many of my other projects. As much as I am still insecure, I have found a special kind of love for these images, especially the ones of my younger self.
